Add Friends Quickly
Friends make it much easier to regroup after a dungeon, coordinate in the open world, and build a reliable party for multiplayer activities. In AION 2, you can send a request either by searching for a character name or by interacting with a player standing nearby.
A friend request is not complete until the recipient accepts it. After acceptance, that player appears in your Friends List, where you can message them, invite them to a party, check their information, or save a personal note.
| Method | Best used when | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| Nearby-player interaction | The player is beside you after questing or a dungeon | Visual access to their character |
| Friends menu search | The player is elsewhere, offline, or on another map | Their character name |
| Cross-server search | Your friend plays on another server | Their character name and, if needed, server tag |
The nearby method is usually the fastest after finishing content together. The menu method is better when you already know who you want to add but cannot find them in the current area.

Add a Nearby Player
When another player is in front of you, select them and use the interaction controls attached to their character. On PC, holding Alt frees the mouse cursor so you can click players and interface elements without moving normally.
Follow these steps:
- Hold
Altto show the cursor. - Left-click the character you want to add.
- Confirm that their nameplate and target indicator appear.
- Choose the Add Friend option from the interaction bar above or near their character information.
- Wait for them to accept the request through their Friends menu.
This route is especially convenient after you have cleared a dungeon, fought a world boss, or met a helpful player while leveling. The same interaction area may also offer a Party Invite, but a party invitation and a friend request are separate actions.
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Select a nearby character | Opens their available interaction options |
| Add Friend | Sends a pending friend request |
| Invite to Party | Invites them to your current group instead |
| View player information | Lets you inspect the selected character before adding them |
If the Add Friend option does not appear, make sure you selected the character rather than a nearby enemy, NPC, or ground target. Releasing Alt too early can also make it difficult to click the interaction controls.
Search for a Friend by Name
Use the Friends management screen when the player is not nearby. Open the main menu with Esc or the menu icon in the upper-right corner, then select Manage Friends. The Friends panel opens along the side of the screen and includes a field for adding a player.
Enter the character name carefully, then use the confirmation button to send the request. A system notification should confirm that the request was sent.
| Step | Menu path or action | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Press Esc or open the main menu | The full menu is visible |
| 2 | Select Manage Friends | The Friends panel opens |
| 3 | Use the add-friend search field | The name is spelled exactly |
| 4 | Confirm the request | A sent-request notification appears |
| 5 | Open Manage Requests | The outgoing request shows as pending |
AION 2 supports adding players across servers, so a different server does not automatically prevent you from maintaining a friend connection. If a normal name search does not locate a cross-server player, ask them for the server identifier they use with their name. Players commonly use a short server tag in brackets, such as CharacterName[Ser].
Be precise with character spelling, capitalization, and any server tag. If the entry does not appear in outgoing requests after you confirm it, try again with the exact name supplied by your friend.
Accept and Manage Friend Requests
Receiving a request uses the same Friends management area. Open Manage Friends, then select Manage Requests near the bottom of the panel. Incoming requests and outgoing requests are separated, helping you see whether you still need to respond or are waiting for someone else.
| Request type | Status indicator | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| Incoming request | Accept and decline controls | Add the player, decline, or leave it pending |
| Outgoing request | Pending status | Wait for the other player to respond |
| Accepted request | Player appears in Friends List | Message, invite, note, inspect, or remove |
To accept a request, choose the checkmark beside the incoming player. The game confirms the connection in chat or through a notification, and your friend counter increases immediately. If the counter has not changed, the request is probably still waiting for a response.
Once a player is on your list, select their name to open their available options:
- View Info: See their character profile and gear overview.
- Whisper: Start a private conversation.
- Invite to Party: Send a group invitation.
- Memo: Add a private reminder, such as their class or where you met.
- Remove Friend: Delete the connection and free a Friends List slot.
The Friends List has a maximum of 50 entries. Use memos to keep useful context before the list fills up, especially if you regularly meet players through matchmaking.
Form a Party and Play Together
Adding someone as a friend does not automatically place both of you in a group. To actually play together, select their name in the Friends List and choose Invite to Party, or select their nearby character and use the Party Invite option.
After they accept, they appear in the Party interface and can join activities that support groups. Party leaders can adjust group settings, manage invitations, leave the party, or assign leadership to another player.
| Activity type | Typical party limit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Expeditions | Up to 5 players | Designed for small PvE groups |
| Transcendence dungeons | Up to 5 players | Requires a compatible group and entry requirements |
| Sanctuaries | Up to 10 players | Supports larger coordinated teams |
| Main story instances | Varies, often solo | Some progression sections separate party members |
Cross-server friends can be useful for supported instanced content, including dungeons. However, cross-server access does not mean every open-world activity, faction area, or story mission can be completed together. Check the activity interface before assuming a party can enter.
Early story progression is also more individual than group-focused. You can travel and fight in the open world together, but some quests and instanced story chapters track progress separately or require solo completion. Group up when an activity explicitly supports it, then expect to split briefly for solo progression gates.
